The Flying Scouts – Celebrating 18 Years of Marine Aerial Surveys
18 Years of Marine Aerial Surveys throughout Thailand
18 Years of continuous aerial surveys.
Every year the Department of Marine Coastal Resources Endangered marine Species group mobilises significant resources to these surveys, and together with many volunteers who give their time and expertise make the Thai Dugong project the success that they have been, and continue to be.
A huge shout out and thank you to all of you unsung heros that make these surveys possible, from the dedicated marine biologists, pilots and aircraft support staff, Air Traffic Control, to all the airports, both private and public who host the survey teams. Every contribution to the aerial survey effort large or small makes a difference.
Seems like only yesterday that Jim Matonti handed over the mantle of survey flying to the Flying Scouts, collaborating with the legendary “Thai Mother of Dugongs”, Dr. Kanjana Adulyankosol.
Dr. Kanjana pioneered aerial surveys in Thailand and taught numerous pilots including Capt. Ed the low level transect survey techniques still used today.
. This tribute is in your honor Dr. Kanjana. RIP.
